getting-ready-picsOne of my favorite times of the wedding day is the getting ready time. Laughter and smiles with mom and the ladies. Butterflies at the thought of getting married in a few hours. Anticipation of seeing your groom. There is so much fun and excited energy in the room. It’s also pretty chaotic with make-up and hair spray everywhere, dresses hanging up, music is normally playing loudly, people coming in and out of the space to check on stuff for later in the day; but it’s so much fun!

I love capturing these moments at they happen, these candid moments that really add to the day and tell the story of your day. Ben captures some of the sweetest and most awesome candids of y’all getting ready- the bride hugging her flower girl, the mother-of-the-bride tearing up while helping her daughter into her wedding dress, the bridesmaids laughing at some funny joke being said. We capture it all. We might even capture a flower girl screaming as she’s getting her hair done!

If the guys are getting ready in another hotel room or in another room at the venue, we make sure to sneak on over there as well and capture pictures then. These are always great pictures of the guys! One of my all time favorites that Ben got was of one of our grooms, Matt, dressing his son as he got ready for his Dad’s wedding. It was such a touching moment and wonderful picture that was captured by Ben. It’s these kind of moments that make what we do the absolute best!

I encourage my couples to plan to have us there for getting ready pictures. We don’t necessarily have to be there from the moment the first curler goes in the hair (since we know it can take HOURS for the bride to get ready!), but we do like to show up at least an hour before you are done getting ready. This allows for us to capture pictures of you getting ready as well as moments that happen before portrait pictures get started. There’s so much that’s going on during that time- you don’t want to miss out on these pictures for your day!

Without us there an hour or more early, we aren’t able to capture these awesome moments that happen before the portrait pictures. Some of my all time favorite pictures are from the getting portion of the day. These unscripted, unposed portions of the day tell so much of the story for your entire day; and much of this part of your story doesn’t even get seen by most people at your wedding. Our job is to capture it to where your friends and family felt like they got to participate not only in the wedding and reception, but the entire day as well!
