This past weekend was completely amazing! Josh and I took a weekend for us and had the best time! We had discussed taking Levi with us and really wanted to, but decided it would change the dynamic of the trip completely. We definitely needed a weekend just the two of us. We missed him, but had an amazing time!
We drove in the icky rain Friday after work and woke up on Saturday to go to Fort Sumter. Being a history teacher for seven years, and teaching this part of history to my students, I loved finally getting to go here! It was really cool getting to be where so much history occurred and where the Civil War began. The history nerd in me was freaking out and loving every second of it!
We had a great time walking around the city on Saturday and Sunday. The homes in Charleston are simply incredible! I loved taking pictures of the amazing construction and beautiful designs. We took a bus tour around the city to learn more of the history and learned that much of the city was marsh lands that were filled in! Some of the homes built on this land-filled area are now slanting because the ground is slowly sinking!
As much fun as we had this weekend touring, one of my favorite parts was probably all of the amazing food we ate! If you’re ever in Charleston, you MUST go to CRU Cafe. It was simply wonderful! We also enjoyed lunch at Jestine’s with the delicious southern cooking for an amazing price! Dinner at Coast Bar and Grill and then at Hall’s Chophouse. We ate very good all weekend! Mmmmm.
Josh and I are so thankful for opportunities to take trips like this. We have amazing parents who will watch Levi for us. God has definitely blessed us and we are very thankful for chances to spend time together as husband and wife! I hope you enjoy checking out our fun weekend!

Hard to get pictures of the two of us when it’s only the two of us on a trip! Even harder to take one yourself when you take your professional camera with a 50mm fixed zoom!
These canons were used during the Civil War and then later buried when they were trying to reinforce the walls during WWI. It wasn’t until the 1980’s (or something) that they uncovered these eleven canons from under the ground!
This was seriously the BEST mac and cheese I have ever had in my entire life. If you ever are in Charleston, you have to stop by at CRU Cafe and get their mac and cheese and their fried green tomatoes. You won’t be disappointed!
Beautiful trees at the entrance to Waterfront Park
I asked someone to take a picture of us!

Being tourists!
College of Charleston was absolutely beautiful! We had so much fun just walking around the campus. I fell in love with the campus!
This beef brisket was amazing! I want to go back to Charleston just to eat it!
Love this guy so much!
The Battery at the end of the peninsula. I was so fascinated with these awesome homes that survived Hurricane Hugo in 1989, that along with the fact that this area used to be marshes and they filled it in to extend the city out towards the water.
Josh was very excited to find a working pay phone at White Point Garden!
Stopped at River Street Sweets for some yummy truffles and chocolate snacks. I always love going here in Savannah, so I was excited to see it also in Charleston!
Can you tell my excitement over my oreo-chocolate-covered-marshmallows?
We visited For Moultrie on Sunday in addition to seeing Fort Sumter on Saturday. It was a really cool fort with much of it intact!
 I wasn’t strong enough…
Fun afternoon at Isle of Palms Beach
Thanks for sharing in my fun visit to Charleston!
