Just for fun, Uncategorized

Many of you are coming off a week (or at least a handful of days of vacation), so I figured I should share part II of my vacation from last month! Two weeks ago I shared my first part of my vacation in Boston visiting family with Josh and Levi. We had such a great time, but man oh man, I could never live up North. It was really cold already at the end of October! If you saw the pictures, we were bundled up the whole time!

So our second half of our vacation we went the Tybee Island and Savannah! Josh’s birthday is at the end of October, the day before Halloween, so when we go out of town for his birthday, we end up out of town on Halloween. Last year, we were on a cruise for Josh’s birthday and Halloween. We didn’t know last year that we should have dressed up on the cruise ship for Halloween- apparently we were some of the only ones without a costume! This year, we weren’t gonna mess that up!

The fun part of the trip was Josh had no idea where we were going. I planned the whole trip myself! I’ve never done anything like that before in planning a trip on my own. I wanted to take us somewhere we hadn’t been together before. Now, technically we went to Savannah a couple of years ago together to visit some friends who lived there at the time (hey Ramsays!) but we hadn’t been on our own or to Tybee before, so it was a perfect trip! Josh loves the beach and I love visiting Savannah (without a bunch of 8th graders- I used to go every year with nearly 400 8th graders!)

We left Levi at home with the grandparents for this part of the vacation, so we literally got off the plane from Boston, met Josh’s Dad, and drove on down to Tybee! Josh thought maybe we were going to Florida originally with going down I-75, but then figured it was Savannah once we got on I-16, but even then I told him that we weren’t staying in Savannah, which was technically true!

We spent most of the trip at the beach just relaxing and reading. We walked around Tybee Beach and visited the lighthouse there. We had some yummy meals out on the beach. In the evenings both nights we were there, we went into Savannah for dinner. The first night, we went to this awesome place called Vic’s on the River and our second night was at The Pirate’s House.

Going to Savannah on Halloween was tons of fun! On our way down, I told Josh that I hadn’t thought about Savannah at Halloween, but wondered if the city got really into it. I had a feeling since the city is said to be one of most haunted cities in America that it would be really into Halloween. Josh looked up online that next to St. Patty’s Day that Halloween is the biggest party in Savannah! I even had Savannah (my bride, not the city) and Eric (my last wedding post) travel down for the weekend just for Halloween!

Pretty much everyone in the city was dressed up in some kind of costume. There were some amazing costumes! There was a girl who dressed up as a rain cloud. She had put some sort of mesh hat on with strings that hung down all around her face with “drops” of rain on the strings. She even carried a rain stick with her! Josh and me? We were appropriately dressed as Pirates for our night out at The Pirate’s House!

We had such a great time together and such a wonderful trip to Tybee and Savannah! Josh and I had originally talked about taking a cruise again this year for our fall vacation, but we are both so glad that we did the Boston trip the first half of the week and Tybee/Savannah the second half!
