Historic DeKalb Courthouse | Decatur, GA | February 14, 2017

I met Mayra a few weeks ago at the Georgia Bridal Show and instantly fell in love with her! She emailed me that night and said I HAD to be her wedding photographer and that all we had to do was meet with Phil and get him on board! I had such a great time talking with her at the show and getting to hear about her wedding plans to Phil, only I didn’t know the entire plan until they came to my house the next week!

Come to find out, their wedding date in August is their formal ceremony and reception; because on Tuesday, they got married at the DeKalb County Courthouse! When I met with them for their consultation, I told them to let me know if they wanted me to come and join them at their elopement. I am so glad they asked me to be there for their special day! Their parents, siblings, and close friends and family were there as well to witness their sweet ceremony.

Y’all, I have never seen anything like this before in going to the courthouse to get married. There was an option to have what the judge called a “quickie ceremony” right in the hallway with everyone else there. He literally went “do you so-and-so take so-and-so to be your wife/husband?” They would say yes, they would kiss, he would sign the paper, and they would leave. It took all of 10 seconds to perform. There were about 7 or 8 couples who did this. It just blew my mind! To each is own and I’m not making fun of anyone, but it was just so interesting to me. The rest of the couples, like Mayra and Phil, waited until they were called back into the ceremony room to get married.

After the ceremony, we spent a few minutes walking around downtown Decatur to take some pictures. The Historic DeKalb Courthouse is next door to the new one and is so gorgeous, so we went over there for a handful of pictures as well. I am so happy I was able to provide them with pictures to remember this special day; and I look forward to seeing everyone again in August for their party at Primrose Cottage!

Phil’s sweet Mama just overcome with emotion  Mothers hugging each other. Their children are married! Hug from Dad after he’s a married man!
