A Lucky Break in the Rain
Ashley and Adam’s Ivy Hall wedding was packed with joy, laughter, and a touch of weather magic. Rain poured down most of the day—except for one perfect two-hour window from 2 to 4 p.m. That’s when we squeezed in their First Look, wedding party portraits, and family photos. We made every minute count! We were walking back from the couple portraits at the waterfall as the rain started to sprinkle. Within minutes of us getting inside, the sky let out for the next hour! Had we been 5 minutes later, our sweet bride (and groom) would have been soaked!
College Sweethearts with a Twist
These two met while at UGA. From the start, their connection was strong. Ashley’s family has a funny pattern—everyone has a “J” name and marries another “J.” But Ashley broke the streak. Her parents chose a non-J name for her, and then gave her younger brother a “J” name anyway! So she really is the odd one out, but this was meant to be. She was made to stand out—and she found her perfect match in Adam. A + A, just as it should be! The real question is, will they name their kids A’s or J’s down the road?!
A Full-Circle Moment
This wedding meant a lot to me personally. I was Ashley’s eighth-grade teacher 13 or 14 years ago! We reconnected during our virtual consultation, and both of us were surprised to realize how we knew each other. Ashley came to me through Paige, one of her bridesmaids, whose wedding I photographed last year. I taught Paige’s brother one of my first years teaching, so the connections were all over the place with these two weddings! It felt like such a full-circle moment to now capture Ashley’s day.
A Smooth Rainy-Day Plan
Rain didn’t ruin a thing. The Ivy Hall team moved everything indoors for the ceremony with speed and care. They wiped down chairs, reset the decor, and started the ceremony just a few minutes late. I’ve photographed over 200 weddings, and this was one of the smoothest weather backups I’ve ever seen. I was very impressed with how seamless they made the transition from outdoors to inside.
The Bracelet Saga
Ashley had all the classic good-luck items—something borrowed, something blue, and something new. Her “something new” was a sparkling tennis bracelet. But it wasn’t content to stay on her wrist! It fell off once during portraits. We checked my photos to figure out when it slipped off. After the ceremony, her dad and brother searched the exact spot I described—and they found it! Later during the reception, it came off again apparently in the women’s restroom. I happened to walk by two guests holding it up and knew immediately who it belonged to. I took it straight to Ashley, and she decided to tuck it away for the rest of the night! Hopefully the clasp has gotten fixed so no more mishaps!
A Beautiful Day to Remember
Ashley and Adam’s Ivy Hall wedding was full of meaning and love. The rain couldn’t stop the fun, and every part of the day felt true to who they are. I’m so grateful I got to be part of their celebration. Ivy Hall weddings always have charm, but this one will stay with me for a long time.
