I cannot believe how blessed I am to be able to shoot so many proposals in the Atlanta area, especially as a Roswell proposal photographer. I love where I live and there are so many amazing proposal locations! When Alexander contacted me for his proposal to Katelyn, we talked about the Roswell Mill as an original idea, because Alexander and Katelyn started dating in high school and their first date was at the Roswell Mill. I’ve done a couple of them there, but we talked about the possibility of it being crowded.
I sent Alexander a few options and he loved the idea of Barrington Hall as a quiet location and then onto the Mill for additional pictures as the Mill is a special location for them. Well, it worked out that we didn’t pick the Mill and the waterfall as a spot, because unbeknownst to me, they have had it closed for a couple of months due to some work being done in the area! My family goes hiking over there often, but we haven’t been actually that direction to the waterfall/dam, so I had no idea! I’m SO glad we weren’t having to pivot last second when I would have shown up early to see it fenced off! Living in Roswell for over 11 years, I would have never even thought the waterfall would/could be closed!
Alexander shared his location to me on his iPhone earlier in the day and texted me when the Uber was picking them up to head up to Roswell from Georgia Tech, so I knew when they were going to arrive. Being the first night of the Taylor Swift concert and the Janet Jackson concert, we weren’t sure how long 1) it would take to pick up an Uber and 2) how bad traffic would be, but it went smoothly and they made it up there in good time all things considered for a crazy Friday night in Atlanta!
Barrington Hall is a location that it wouldn’t be weird for a photographer to be around, but if Katelyn saw a photographer standing around when they came up to the spot, I had a feeling she might get suspicious. I told Alexander ahead of time that I would pretend to be scoping out the location for a shoot coming up and ask them if they could help me out and model for me so I could get my lighting and angles right, so when they came up, I did just that and even told her I’d get her email address and send them the pictures as a thank you for helping me. This also helped get all purses and water bottles out of hand and out of soon-to-be-proposal pictures!
I snapped a few pictures and thanked them for their help and from there, Alexander took the lead and asked Katelyn to marry him! She was NOT expecting it! He had done such a good job of throwing her off that she actually thought it was happening on Saturday due to “where their date was planned” (but not really). She was completely shocked and couldn’t believe when Alexander asked!
We took some sweet engagement pictures at Barrington Hall and before heading off, I pulled out champagne and flutes that Alexander had sent over to my house in preparation for the proposal. Katelyn knew how to do the perfect champagne spray and got us all perfectly sprinkled in champagne for the best pictures!
We headed over to the Mill for a few more pictures and one last surprise. As we finished up their pictures, Katelyn and Alexander’s parents walked up for a celebration moment. It was super sweet and so much fun getting to be a part of their excitement. Thank you Alexander and Katelyn for having me be a part of your special moment!
The “thanks for helping me” picture I took right before the proposal. Surprise! I love being a Roswell proposal photographer! So excited! I loved their engagement session afterwards! Seriously, they are the cutest! Opening up the champagne flutes to see “Mr. and Mrs.” Perfect champagne shower! Onto the Mill!
These are absolutely adorable! I love your cover stories!!
OMG, they are the sweetest couple. They look so happy!
