Jackie and Chase met me for their Piedmont Park engagement pictures in November, and I know her from a very special way. Most of you know that I taught middle school for seven years while I was in the early years of my business. I went to college and got my degree in middle grades education. I planned on teaching middle school until I retired, but shortly after I got married in November of 2007, I got the idea of starting my own photography business on the side of teaching. So in January of 2008, I shot my first ever engagement session with my little old Nikon D40 and was hooked! I immediately upgraded my equipment and started my little fledgling business!
Little did I know that I would quit teaching seven years later to stay at home with Levi and jump into my photography business full time. Nor did I know that years later after teaching Jackie, I would be taking her Piedmont Park engagement pictures to Chase! Her mom hired a photographer for their wedding that didn’t include engagement pictures, so when she reached out to me for her Piedmont Park engagement pictures, I was super excited to get to do it!
Jackie “followed in my footsteps” and became a teacher! Well, she became an elementary school teacher, but I’d like to think I had a little influence on her decision to become a teacher. I know my 4th grade teacher was one of my greatest influences even though I taught middle school. In fact, her being a teacher is how she met Chase! He’s also a teacher and taught at the same school she was located in her first year of teaching!
I’m so excited for them and so thankful that I got to shoot this super sweet engagement session; and I shot majority of it on my new Nikon z6ii! It’s my new mirrorless camera that I was so excited to shoot on that I pulled it out the day I got it to take pictures with it. Unfortunately, I didn’t know that my Adobe editing programs wouldn’t be supported by the new files! I couldn’t edit them when I got home!! I edited the ones from my older camera and edited a handful of what I could from the new z6ii, but I couldn’t do them all. Jackie was so gracious to be patient and wait until Adobe got their update out a month later! I usually turn around engagement sessions in 2 weeks, so I HATED not being able to get them to her sooner! I appreciate Jackie and Chase being so patient for their whole gallery! I hope it was worth the wait! 🙂
